265 Google Hot!

Monday, March 31st, 2008

265.com and Google is another hot keyword in my blog. “265.com Google” the keyword kept bringing my blog traffics for more than one year.

What’s amazing story between this two brands. Guess google china really learned a lot from china website like 265.com. I mean both the style and the domain strategy.

That’s why Google has it’s directory page in China, which looks wired for western internet user, and has a short domain www.g.cn.

Every international brand came across localization problems during they first steps in China. Google couldnt by pass all the problems over night or by technology.

Whether Google bought 265.com or not? It doesnt matter. When you look at www.265.com, the search box there will first bring you to google.

That tells everything.

Baidu API is very hot keyword now. The keyword “baidu API access” keep bringing me 10+ traffic every day from all over the world. And almost every of them went throught all my posts here about Baidu API.

From Australia to Japan, from United Stated to UK. Well, people had been longing for Baidu API for years.

Mathew from Sintech told me that Efficient Frontier also got their tools integrated with Baidu API. So there were at least five proved baidu api integrated tools so far.

There will be more, and bring better ROI to those advertisers who relate their online business a lots with Baidu paid listing.

Better ROI leads to more investment in chinese paid listing.

And sure, more keyword management talents and copywriters needed in the coming future.

Facebook touching China

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Facebook is hiring staffs for China branch. But I cant find any hints in the lists Facebook Jobs.

A little bird told me this morning that the hiring is real. One ABC ( America Born Chinese ) is leading the project now very secretly. Some said that the one had studied at Harvard with Mark Zuckerberg, the Facebook CEO.

Not more aquire will happen now. All rumors in 2007 turned out to be a joke. Guess some chinese SNS companies who had been longing for cash out from Facebook will be very disappointed now.

Maybe, someday that will be aquire again, but no now.

I check the http://www.facebook.com/ and find out that the url been redirected to zh-cn.facebook.com. And the language support has the simplified chinese option ready!

“We are ready!” guess this is what Facebook going to say.

facebook has an unique url for china user

Simplified Chinese is one of the five supported language in Facebook.

Baidu says Hi

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Baidu is saying “Hi” to every internet user in China.

Among the 210 million china internet users, more than 50% percent is using IMs everyday.

IM even become the first access for quite a large percentage of internet users.

Even more users use IM to be gateway for all their online activities.

Reading, Searching, Gaming, Shopping… etc, you can get it all within an IM like QQ ( a most popular IM in China by Tencent ).

Here is some figure that might help you to understand the power of success IM in China.

The profit for Baidu in 2007 is 629 million RMB, compared with Tencent’s 1,599 million RMB, it looks like a little sister.

Very online company want to get revenue from ADs and virtual transaction, via QQ the IM, Tencent got it all.

That’s why Baidu luanch their IM “Hi”. Baidu are actually saying hi to more royalty users and more profit.

Search is not simply a search bar or a box, the value for search is the theory of relevency. Relevency drives more attention for Brand Awareness and Business Lead.

But how internet user find those relevent content ( ad, transaction and game)?

IM, directory, search engine, portal, online game…etc. Every of these get the opportunity to become the first stop of internet users in China.

Are you ready to ready a hi to baidu. here is the picture.

Baidu IM Hi

You can easily find a search box right under the user name. Yes, that’s me, if you want a Baidu hi invitation, just feel free to let me know, i will give you one

Get your Baidu API

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

We have beening talking about Baidu API since 2005.

At 2006, I got more queries from different big management tools and systems about Baidu API. Most of the queries came from North America and Europe.

Even some Fortune 500 companies were asking Baidu API for their chinese online promotion campaign.

But Baidu didnt offer their API at that time, and we didnt event hear any rumor about the possibility of that.

I gradually forget this Baidu API idea.

At the end of 2007, a little bird told me that someone got the Baidu API. I didnt pay any attention to “the bird”.

One month ago, I was told that some companies had claimed officially in their website about their tool’s connection with baidu via API.

And today, when I looked at my gmail. In the conversation between me, Chris Sherman regarding Farah Sadiq’s speakership in SMX China, I find that baidu is promoting their paid search listing in Google Adsense, and this link takes me to the Baidu API page.

baidu promote API at google adsense

OK, Baidu API finally come true. They name it as Baidu P4P Application Programming Interface (BPFPAPI).

And here is some information from the baidu API page:

1) Assignment of daily quotas

Daily transaction quotas = basic quotas + quotas per keyword×number of keywords in the account + quotas per consumption×last-day consumption.

Basic quotas: the fixed daily quotas assigned to every account.

Number of keywords in the account: the total number of keywords in the account when the transaction quota is calculated.

Last-day consumption: the total amount of consumptions of all the keywords in the account last day (unit: RMB).

Basic quotas = 5,000; quotas per keyword = 5; quotas per consumption = 10.

2) Use of daily quotas:

Used transaction quotas = number of transaction×quota units used per transaction

Quota units used per transaction: the BPFPAPI assigns same quota value for different type of transactions currently, which is 1 quota for each transaction, but might change in the future.

OK, suppose Baidu’s people will be around at Xiamen for SMX China event. Better to find them and talk to them there.

Anyway, the box is open now. More accurate ROI can be tracked now.
